Oman Civil Status-Application and Renewal Process 2024

Oman is a high-income economy and has been ranked as the most improved nation in the world in the past 40 years. Like all other Gulf States, it has also welcomed digitalization in various fields to facilitate its citizens and residents. If Oman is your next destination, you must get acquainted with Omani laws and abide by them while staying there. Civil Status in the State will be your prime requirement after landing in this part of the Gulf. Without having a civil status, it is impossible to live and work in this West Asian country.

What is Civil Status ID in Oman

Oman civil ID is a document issued by the Royal Oman Police that serves as the identity of a person living in Oman. If you are an expat in the State, your priority should be to get a civil status ID to avoid any inconvenience while living and traveling in the State. Remember that the Royal Oman Police issues separate civil status IDs for individuals and batches of many people. Without having an ID card, you cannot avail of many governmental and private services in the Sultanate of Oman.

How to Apply for a Civil Status Card?

Applying for a civil ID card in Oman is not a complicated process. Instead, the Royal Oman Police has introduced digital channels to streamline the process. You can apply for a new civil ID in Oman both online and offline.

Whether you are an Omani citizen or resident, you can apply for the issuance of a new civil status card online. The detailed process is as follows:

Log In to the PKI (Public Key Interface)

The first step to applying for a new civil status in Oman is to log in to the service through PKI. Public Key Interface is an Omani government initiative that enables all government entities to provide e-services in the Sultanate of Oman. Remember that an individual cannot apply without a guardian or sponsor. Therefore, your guardian will log in to the portal at https://www.rop.gov.om/onlineservices/eForms/en/default.aspx.

Fill Form

After your guardian or sponsor logs in to the service through PKI, a form will open in the new window. Fill in all the required fields and submit the request. Usually, the information required is name, age, passport number, and residential address. So, keep all the documents with you while applying. Remember to keep passport-sized photos of the applicant with you.

Data Verification

When you submit a filled form, the service begins verification of your input data. It also verifies the guardian’s data and the relationship between the applicant and the guardian.

Fee Payment

As the verification completes, a new window appears on the screen asking for online fee payment. You can pay fees from your bank account or debit/credit cards on this payment portal. Remember to receive payment receipt after fee payment.

After 10-15 days, you will receive the civil status card through the official Oman Post. You can also receive your card online via the ROP website.

Offline Application for New Civil Status ID

If you have no internet facility, you can visit service centers specified by the Royal Oman Police. The detailed step-by-step process is as follows:

  • Visit your nearest Service center and ask them about the issuance of a new Civil Status ID Card.
  • The agent will give you an application form for the issuance of a new Civil Status.
  • Fill in the form carefully. Remember to take your necessary documents with you and fill out the form as per your original documents. You can also seek help from the service center agent during form filling.
  • Paste your Passport-sized photograph on the specified place on the form and attach all necessary documents. Usually, the documents required are your Passport, Residential Status and Address, and Nationality.
  • After filling out the form, go to the fee payment counter for payment of the Civil Status Card fee.
  • Now, submit the form to the service center agent and take the receipt. You will receive your Civil Status Card within 10-15 days of application submission.

Remember that the presence of the Appicant’s guardian at the service center is mandatory if the applicant is below 18.

Directorate General of Civil Status (DGCS) at Royal Oman Police charges 6 Omani Riyal for the issuance of new Civil Status.

Civil Status Card Renewal

Depending on various conditions, the validity period of your Civil Status may be different. Therefore, remember to renew it before expiration to avoid fines and other issues. The renewal process of the Civil Status Card is almost similar to applying for a new card. You can request renewal online and offline.

Online Civil Status Card Renewal

The renewal process of the civil status card in Oman is almost the same as the new card application. You can proceed with it in the following steps:

  • Log in to the service through PKI using your ID number and password.
  • Click the civil status card renewal tab.
  • A new form will open on the screen. Fill out all your details in the form and submit it.
  • After the verification of the applicant’s record, you will land on the fee submission page.
  • Deposit the fee through the e-payment portal, and you are done.
  • You will receive a renewed card within 7-10 days.

Offline Civil Status Card Renewal Request

Omani citizens and residents can also initiate the civil status renewal request by visiting the service centers. The detailed process is:

  • Visit your nearest service center and ask the agent for renewal of your ID card.
  • The agent will hand you a form to fill out your details and initiate a renewal request.
  • Fill out the required details and attach all the supporting documents with it, including the fee payment receipt.
  • Submit the form and get a receipt with the expected delivery dates of your renewed ID card.

Things to Keep in Mind

Whether you are applying for a new civil status or renewing your expired civil status, you have to keep the following things in mind:

  • The applicant has to be present in the Sultanate of Oman.
  • He should have a valid and active civil status card.
  • All the proceedings should be through PKI (Public Key Interface). Therefore, activate the e-authentication of the applicant.
  • Application for the renewal of the civil ID has to be submitted before the expiration of the Civil ID Card.
  • If the individual is below 18 years of age, the application can only be submitted by his father. However, if the father or guardian is not present in the State, the application can only be submitted at the service center.
  •  The applicant has to be present in an Omani uniform at the service center if he is 15 years or older.
  • In case the applicant is below 15 years of age, the presence of the guardian is mandatory at the service center.
  • For renewals, the applicants should have an original ID card and application form filled in all respects.
